Legends of Football competition winners
Twenty lucky children, including one from Edward Betham, received an England kit and attended a training session with Gareth Southgate at Watford’s training ground. They were all winners in The Elms Sport in School's Legends of Football competition!

The group received over an hour’s coaching from the Gareth and David Shevel (Shev). Every winner asked Gareth a question; our winner asked how he got to be the England manager. Gareth joked that there was no one left to ask! He said that when he was too old to play any more, he started coaching to help other players - first in the Premier League, then the England under-21s because he knew younger players had lots they needed to learn. He coached Harry Kane, John Stones, Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford at under-21 level.

Gareth told us that the best player he played with was Paul Gascoigne. His favourite England goal at last year’s World Cup was Marcus Rashford’s first goal against Wales, and he felt that Argentina deserved to win the World Cup.

Every winner received a bracelet (only given to players coached by Gareth) and a signed match ball. It was an amazing day! Thank you to The Elms Sport in Schools for organising such a brilliant competition.
