Junior Citizens

On Tuesday, Year 6 went to the Junior Citizens Centre. We travelled by bus to get to Southall where the centre was located. When we arrived, we were split up into three groups for three sections.

The first section was the safety while on a train or bus. Tips you should follow:

Train:

  • Don’t crowd around the train door as if there is a gap you might fall into
  • If you fall in, there is a ledge you might fall into, but you will be approximately 2.5 inches away from electric tracks
  • There are 4 electric rails each with 6000 amps

Bus:

  • Don’t crowd around the bus doors
  • Only press the “stop” button once
  • Don’t talk to the bus driver while he or she is driving

The second section was a police talk. We were talking about the safety needed in high school. Tips we learnt were:

  • Never take your phone out right as you exit your school
  • Never walk while holding your phone as someone could easily steal your phone
  • If someone threatens you for your belongings give it to them as it could get deadly if you refuse

Also we got to wear some police gear such as a SWAT helmets and bullet proof vests

The third section was about safety in a fire. Tips we learnt were:

  • Never leave a candle near a very flammable material
  • If the fire is outside the room you a currently in, close the door as it will allow an extra 30 minutes for you to call for help
  • If there is a window open it and shout, "Fire!" as saying "Help!" might not make people call for an emergency service.

We then ate our lunch in the local church hall. A huge thank you to Holy Trinity, Southall, for allowing us to do so
