Dear family and friends of Year 6,

 

Hello again, and as the sun sets on another day of perfect weather and tremendous fun here, my friends and I feel we’re really settling into island life. It seems to be mainly about beach, beach and more beach- and some interesting interpretations of what ‘paddling’ means, from dipping your toes in the sparkly blue surf, to fully immersing yourself (and your leggings/tracksuit/t-shirt/hair/unfortunately a camera), emerging dripping wet and apologetic for having ‘slipped in’.

 

We started the day with mountains of toast, cereal and yawns after some of us did not get the recommended 10 hours’ sleep (pleasingly, some did, and even more pleasingly ALL children had showers yesterday evening and appeared to be wearing new clothes today). Squirrels are self-cleaning but children are not.

It was then onto the coach for a split day- one half completing tree climbing, vortex golf, orienteering or beach time at Ryde, the other half hitting yet another beach at Sandown- and of course, the fabulous pier- the first chance to spend some pocket money.

 

All the teachers seemed very proud of the children’s courage and climbing ability, although I personally don’t see what all the fuss is about- tree climbing is easy as pie!

 

 

Back on the coach (having brought a lot of the sand and sea with us), my buddies and I headed back to the hotel for showers and dinner. Tonight, we are competing at laser tag - there are a lot of competitive children this year so I look forward to watching the action from the café.

Tomorrow it is Queen Vicky’s beach house and swimming, followed by the beach (they just can’t get enough beach) and crazy golf.

At both the donkey sanctuary and the tree climbing, the adults told me they loved meeting the children and were really impressed with their manners and enthusiasm- it made me get tingles all down my tail to hear it.
