Isle of Wight 2022: Day 1

Good evening parents/carers and friends,
My name is Sidmond Gus, christened by the children today.

After a smooth start and an exciting crossing of the Solent, Year 6 arrived at the donkey sanctuary ready to make some furry friends… and we certainly did!
The staff at the sanctuary were very pleased to welcome us back after a three year absence. The children were delighted to befriend our special donkey, Dennis, who to the children’s delight was on especially naughty form, butting and kicking the other donkeys out of the way to get to us and running full pelt with ears back, hopeful for a stroke!

We learnt how to groom, scan and match collars with microchips and identify Shetland ponies, donkeys and even a mule. A great visit was rounded off with writing postcards and a quiz. We are pleased with the hotel: the friendly staff, the rooms and the meal- nuggets and mash followed by jelly and ice cream. My friends tell me that they are not missing home too much right now, and as we’re about to hit the beach I’m sure the sandy fun will be a great way to round off the day.

That’s all for now, see you tomorrow!
Sidmond Gus
