Isle of Wight 2022: Day 4

Dear Parents/Carers and friends of Year 6,

A wonderful end (nearly) to a wonderful week, more wall-to-wall sunshine and idyllic landscapes at Robin Hill, and-of course- the beach. After our late-evening crazy golfing, my friends and I enjoyed a small lie-in this morning, followed by a relaxed breakfast of sausage and eggs. We then gathered our things and boarded the coach- destination Robin Hill. Imagine my delight when I discovered Squirrel Tower, an activity that showed my friends how brilliant the life of a squirrel really is. Like with the tree-climbing, the children were surprisingly good (for humans) at clambering around in the trees, and had loads of fun on the ropes high up in the trees. We refreshed ourselves with slushies, ice creams and cold drinks… what happy times! The 4D cinema experience scared me to the tips of my tiny claws, but judging by my friends’ delighted screams, I think they felt differently, although some of the teachers looked like 4D was one dimension too far.

I kept myself well hidden during the falconry show- some of those birds are quite literally DEADLY. The elegance and prowess of the birds of prey were much admired, as they soared and swooped around their heads- exciting (if you’re not a squirrel)! Given the heat, the children loved the rush of air that the toboggan provided. All in all, we returned from Robin Hill very happy.

After a brief packing session (although many children would be happy to stay longer), we hit the beach for one last jaunt. It was wonderful to sit or paddle in the cool shallows; we really have become beach lovers this week. Supper was fish and chips, then chocolate cake and ice cream. Now we are partying like it’s 1984, with hits from Kate Bush, Rick Astley and Madonna amongst the usual favourites like Gangnam Style and We don’t talk about Bruno - the teachers seem delighted - for some of them, this is not the first era that these songs have been played at a school disco!

Overall it has been a marvellous week, and I know the teachers have really enjoyed this year - what cracking children you all have - thank you for lending them to us!
